It’s OK I understand. I was exactly the same when I played.
I could perform with freedom and confidence in training but when it came to a game my bottle crashed.
I was overcome with doubts in the changing room and my confidence deserted me on the park.
I was worried what everyone would think of me if I made a mistake and as a result looking back I never truly enjoyed my time playing on a match day, it was a relief to hear the final whistle.
“What if I cost a goal?”
“What will the gaffer and the boys think of me if I give the ball away?”
"What are other people going to think about my performance?"
Those are just three of the things that would go through my head constantly on match day.
Unlocking my inner game I believe would have unlocked the door to not only a greater performance but playing with more confidence and freedom at a higher level.
